7 Jobs You Can Give an AI Agent Today and How to Set Them Up
A 7 AM brief is one of the simplest examples of why personal agents are useful. You set it up once. The next morning, before you open email or your calendar, a short brief is waiting: what matters today, which meetings need preparation, which messages need a reply, and what can wait. Specifically, it’s more useful for personal or family things you might miss during busy workdays.
The useful part is that you did not remember to ask.
Many people still underuse agents. We keep treating them like smarter chat windows instead of giving them small responsibilities that run without us.
One Topic: 7 Practical AI Agent Tasks for Everyday Work
What a personal agent actually is
A personal agent gets useful once it has a trigger. It can start at 7 AM (or anytime you defined), when an email arrives, or when something changes on a page you care about.
That changes the job and its’ very important. You stop asking for help each time and start delegating recurring work.
Which tool should you use
ChatGPT Scheduled is the easiest starting point for many people. Free and Go users get three active tasks with recurring runs limited to once per day. Paid plans add exact times, hourly schedules, and eligible plans can react to Gmail, Slack and GitHub events.
Gemini Spark is strong if your life sits in Gmail, Calendar and Drive. It supports time schedules, Gmail monitors and topic monitors. The catch for JustDraft readers is big: Spark is still unavailable in the UK, EEA and Switzerland, and needs Google AI Pro or Ultra.
Claude Cowork works well when the task needs files, connectors or deeper project context. Scheduled tasks run remotely on all paid plans.
Hermes remains my favourite if you want an agent on your own machine. It can schedule jobs, work with local files, deliver results through messaging channels, and build memory and reusable skills over time.
Start with one
Creating the automation usually takes two to five minutes. Data cleanup can take longer, especially for statements and warranties.
Describe the job in plain English, set the trigger, and test the first run. I would set up one this week, not seven. Seven new automations at once usually means seven things to debug on Monday.
Here are 7 AI Agent Tasks Worth Handing Over
1. The 7 AM brief
Setup: 2 minutes. Best fit: Claude Cowork, Hermes, Grok Bot or Gemini Spark where available.
Say: “Every weekday at 7:00 AM, review today’s calendar and new email from the last 16 hours. Give me my first three priorities, meetings that need preparation, messages that need a reply, and any deadline due today. Keep it under 250 words. Do not send replies or change my calendar.”
You get one short brief instead of starting the day with inbox triage.
2. The statement reader
Setup: 5 minutes, plus the first cleanup. Best fit: Hermes or Claude Cowork.
Say: “On the first day of each month or whatever day statement generates, read the new bank and card statement PDFs in my Statements folder or in inbox. List recurring charges, price increases, and any charge paid for three consecutive months. Compare with the previous three months. Do not log in to any bank, cancel anything or make payments.”
Merchant names on statements are rarely as clean as we expect, so the first list will need correction.
3. The Friday loose ends list
Setup: 3 minutes. Best fit: Claude Cowork, ChatGPT Work or Hermes with work accounts connected.
Say: “Every Friday at 3:30 PM, review emails and work conversations from this week where I promised to send, review, decide or reply. List only items with no clear closure. Separate them into I owe and I am waiting on. Do not send follow ups.”
You finish Friday knowing which threads are likely to become Monday problems.
4. The pre meeting brief
Setup: 4 minutes. Best fit: Claude Cowork, Hermes, or Gemini Spark where available.
Say: “Check my calendar for meetings starting in the next 60 minutes. For each external meeting, give me who is attending, the purpose, the last relevant email or note, two decisions still open, and anything I should read before joining. Keep each brief under 200 words.”
The brief arrives while there is still time to use it.
5. The company watcher
Setup: 2 minutes. Best fit: ChatGPT, Gemini Spark where available, or Hermes.
Say: “Every weekday morning, check the careers pages for OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind and Microsoft AI. Tell me only when a new UK remote or London role appears containing product, programme, portfolio, operations or AI strategy. Include title, location, link and closing date if stated. If nothing changed, do not notify me.”
That last line stops your watcher becoming another source of noise. Replace company and location with your location.
6. The topic watcher
Setup: 3 minutes. Best fit: ChatGPT monitoring, Gemini Spark topic monitors, or Hermes.
Say: “Monitor official OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind and Nous Research sources for material changes to personal AI agents, scheduling, memory, computer use or event triggers. Notify me only when an official source confirms a meaningful change. Ignore duplicate coverage, rumours and minor wording updates.”
This is how I would track a topic without creating another news feed.
7. The warranty and renewal tracker
Setup: 5 minutes, plus the first cleanup. Best fit: Hermes or ChatGPT/Claude with Email Plugin
Say: “Every Sunday at 8:00 AM, review new purchase receipts, warranty emails and renewal notices from the last seven days. Add the product, purchase date, price, warranty end date and renewal date to my tracker. Notify me only when a warranty or renewal is within 30 days, or when a renewal price changes. Never cancel or renew anything.”
Old purchase emails will need some correction. Once cleaned, this becomes quiet background admin.
The one rule I would keep
Let the agent prepare almost anything. Do not let it send anything in your name without approval.
That applies to email, messages, applications, purchases, cancellations and posts. Preparation is easy to reverse. Sending something under your name is not.
Pick one of the seven and run it for a week. Then reply and tell me which one you chose. If any question how to implement, don’t hesitate to ask AI of your choice or ask me anytime.

Two Quotes to Inspire
An agent becomes useful when it can carry a responsibility without borrowing your attention every time.
Every founder is paying rent on the tasks they refuse to hand over. The bill arrives as time, and it is never itemised.
One prompt to steal
Find the first job my agent should own
Use this after connecting the AI to the work sources you are comfortable letting it read.
Review the last 14 days of my calendar, email and task list.
Find recurring work I handled at least twice that an AI agent could prepare for me without sending messages, spending money, deleting anything or making an irreversible decision.
For each possible task:
1. Explain what keeps repeating.
2. Estimate how often it happens.
3. Explain what information the agent would need.
4. Rate the risk of getting it wrong as low, medium or high.
5. Estimate how much of the task could happen without me.
Then recommend only one task for me to automate first.
Write the exact scheduled task instruction, including:
the trigger,
what sources it should check,
what output it should produce,
when it should stay silent,
and what it must never do without my approval.
Do not create or schedule anything until I approve the final instruction.
The useful part is the constraint at the end. I do not want an AI finding twenty things to automate. I want it to find the safest useful starting point.
